From Iceland — Yearly Ball Video Misinterpreted

Yearly Ball Video Misinterpreted

Published March 1, 2011

What was supposed to be a video introducing an up-coming yearly ball for Icelandair staff was interpreted by travel blog Gadling as an introduction to the airline’s new uniforms.
In what the blog dubs “the weirdest airline video ever” – a bold statement in a world filled with weird airline videos – the blog writes that “the video was created by employees of Iceland Air for the 2010 crew ball, as a way to show the lineup of 2011 uniforms.”
The video was not, in fact, created to show off new uniforms, but rather just to announce the 2010 annual ball for Icelandair staff. In fact, nowhere in the very brief YouTube description of the video does it even mention the uniforms.
Gadling could be forgiven their mistake, as those of us here who understand Icelandic watched the video a few times, and admittedly would have no idea what this was supposed to be about were it not for the title on YouTube, “Icelandair Crew 2011 Annual Ball Video!!”
Watch the video below and judge for yourself. Incidentally, for those who don’t speak Icelandic, the exchange that occurs between the pilot and steward about halfway through is basically the pilot scolding the steward for his lateness, and then forbidding him from touching the controls.
