From Iceland — Conservative MP Takes Temporary Leave

Conservative MP Takes Temporary Leave

Published April 16, 2010

Independence Party MP Illugi Gunnarsson announced today that he will temporarily step down as parliamentary committee investigations into the economic collapse continue.
The move comes in response to parliament’s decision to refer money market funds to the special prosecutor for investigation. In the time leading up to the crash, Gunnarsson sat on the board of the fund Sjóður 9, which was a part of Glitnir.
Gunnarsson told Vísir that he believes that investigations will show that there was no wrongdoing going on at the fund.
Gunnarsson’s resignation comes a day after Social Democrat MP and former Minister of Business Björgvin G. Sigurðsson also resigned as a member of parliament.
Both will not receive a salary while on leave.
