From Iceland — CIA Files on Laxness Arrive at US State Department

CIA Files on Laxness Arrive at US State Department

Published January 26, 2010

CIA files on the Nobel Prize winning Icelandic writer Halldór Laxness have arrived at the US State Department, according to an expert on the author.
Chay Lemoine, who has been trying to obtain the files for many years, recently received a reply from the Federal Bureau of Investigation that US intelligence reports on the author have now arrived at the US State Department.
Speaking to Vísir, Lemoine said that he received confirmation of this from State Department officials, but was told that he could not see the files, as there were names that needed protecting.
Lemoine speculates that the another possible option would be for Icelandic authorities to ask for the files themselves, but he is uncertain if they even want them.
Chay Lemoine wrote an extensive article for the Grapevine on the subject of the CIA watching Laxness, which can be read here.
