Alþjóðahúsið Receives Award of Recognition

Published October 30, 2009

Alþjóðahúsið was awarded the Humanist Recognition Award yesterday, for their efforts in helping Iceland’s immigrant community.
According to the home page of the Humanist Society, the award was given because “they have delivered unique and selfless work in the area of humanitarianism, human values, and multiculturalism, as it is essential that people of foreign origin feel well in this society, and are able to successfully integrate into society.”
Alþjóðahúsið was founded in 2001, and has been providing legal advice and services to Iceland’s immigrant community since then. Part of their effort to help new arrivals integrate has included providing information with regards to rights and obligations, as well as providing translation, interpretation and language services.
