From Iceland — PM "Must Talk More to Foreign Media"

PM “Must Talk More to Foreign Media”

Published September 10, 2009

French television channel France24 is currently in Iceland
covering the financial crisis and the EU discussion, but have had their
requests for an interview with Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir
According to Morgunblaðið, France24 journalist Caroline De Camaret says that the PM is “popular in Europe because the prevailing opinion is that Iceland will join the EU. She is the one who can have influence on Iceland’s membership application and that’s why she needs to talk more to foreign media.” Camaret says that she understands many foreign media outlets have had a hard time reaching the PM, especially those with an interest in discussing her sexuality. “We have no interest in that,” said Camaret. “Our attention is focused solely on the EU question.”
Prime minister spokesman Einar Karl Haraldsson told Morgunblaðið that the PM tries to restrict her media contact to solely the most necessary occassions. “She hasn’t considered giving interviews and that goes as much for French television as anyone else,” he added.
