Former Conservative Manager Cries “Persecution”

Published February 6, 2009

Former Conservative Party manager Kjartan Gunnarson (seen here dancing
with former Minister of Education Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir)
criticized the new coalition government in an opinion piece in
Morgunblaðið, accusing them of “political cleansing”.
“The new coalition government, with its limited goals, seems to be focused on political cleansing focused on the persecution of a few individuals,” refering in all likelihood to the new government’s decision to restructure the Central Bank and fully audit the Ministry of Finance.
“This is not the right way to build trust. [Prime Minister] Jóhanna [Sigurðardóttir’s] plan smacks of revenge,” he continued, adding that he didn’t believe the Progressives would continue to support the coalition.
