A bill will be submitted to parliament which would, if passed, give Icelandic citizens the right to call for early elections through the use of referendum. The current economic crisis has had many Icelanders calling for early elections. The next elections are not scheduled to be held until 2011. The bill would give Icelandic citizens the right to create early elections if the majority of voters signed a referendum demanding such. If passed, it would apply to both parliamentary and municipal elections.
