From Iceland — Grapevine's Super Special Sónar Special, pt. 1: The Best Kebab In Town

Grapevine’s Super Special Sónar Special, pt. 1: The Best Kebab In Town

Hey guess what? We made you all a series of fantastically rough and short videos where we check in with some of the cooler than cool Icelandic musicians that are set to storm Harpa once Sónar Reykjavík commences in a couple of weeks. Our loving host is none other than Árni Grétar, AKA Futuregrapher, who as it happens will also be bleeping and blooping up a storm at Sónar (be sure to check him out, he’s great!).

In this inaugural episode, Futuregrapher bumps into Icelandic music legend Jón Ólafsson (of Nýdönsk fame) as he samples the best of Reykjavík’s Middle-Eastern cuisine. Big coincidence: the two have been working on some music together, and will be débuting their collaboration on Thursday February 12 at the SonarComplex (presented by Macland).

About the artists:
The project “Jón Ólafsson & Futuregrapher” fuses Jón’s beautiful piano melodies with Futuregrapher’s atmospheric ambient to create a lovely, evocative body of work. Both artists have been active in the Icelandic music scene for many years: Jón is a revered pianist/composer (on his own and as part of some of Icelanders’ favourite pop acts), while Árni Grétar has been super productive in a plethora of projects of late, along with working with electronic label Möller Records, which he co-owns. Sonar Reykjavík will mark their first public performance together, where they will premier music from their forthcoming avant garde ambient album (set to hit stores and the internet in February).
