2011 looks to be a good year for electronic music in Iceland. Most of this good cheer is thanks in no small part to the work of the bods down at Möller records. Birthed earlier this year by local electronic musicians Jóhann Ómarsson (aka Skurken) and Árni Grétar (aka Futuregrapher), Möller Records certainly have been busy, releasing a slew of albums and EPs, as well as helping to curate a night at this year’s Iceland Airwaves with the Weirdcore collective.
To celebrate, they’ve just released the first in a line of showcase music compilations that they plan to release as free downloads. Titled ‘Helga’, it was compiled in conjunction with fellow Icelandic musician DJ Margeir to be part of the ‘Music on Board Icelandair’.
Its 10 tracks include dark tense dubstep of HaZaR, the lo-fi beats of Steve Sampling, the intricate IDM of Skurken and the woozy ambient of Prince Valíum, as well as more from labelmates Fu Kaisha, Murya and Futuregrapher.
For a free body of music, it’s of the highest quality and gives you a tantalising window into the electronic sounds of Iceland in 2011. Download this and you too will be in the know.
