Baggalútur

Published December 9, 2010

As a general rule, Christmas albums are a jingly, tinkly waste of money
and should be avoided if not outright banned. The latest output from
comedy group Baggalútur, ‘Næstu Jól’, may however be an exception. A
collection of their own brand of Christmas songs, the group has covered a
number of well known hits and written witty Icelandic lyrics to go with
them, which generally cover different topics than your usual Christmas
songs. Thankfully.
While Christmas songs remain incredibly annoying, at least Baggalútur
are doing something different here, and going into this album feeling
pretty cynical I did actually manage to crack a smile a few times. This
one is therefore OK, and maybe even a good ironic gift for a Christmas
album hater.
Bottom Line: Warms the heart of the toughest Grinch
