“Difficult people listen to good music; Good people listen to difficult music.”

This is the proverb of Norðanpaunk (“Northern Punk”), an annual family gathering of Iceland’s punk community in Iceland’s mid-west.

Norðanpaunk is an event for difficult people, who like to listen to difficult music, who are—coincidentally—the best people listening to the best music.

Norðanpaunk has no interest in booking the biggest (most boring) bands to draw the biggest crowds (of drunken idiots). This is the bond that pulls our group of people together, and unifies it. A motley crew of outsiders and misfits united in their love for the extraordinary, meeting up with likeminded people, exchanging ideas and experiences, creating something new and unique.

Norðanpaunk aims to become a platform for artists whose music is too demanding and weird for bigger venues; a haven for people who are open-minded about music and art, a place to perform and express themselves.

Norðanpaunk 2015 will commence tomorrrow, and will be celebrated through August 2. Norðanpaunk is three days, 40 bands—imported and domestic—punk, noise, death metal, black metal, grindcore.

Norðanpaunk lives at Laugarbakki, a two-hour drive from Reykjavík. Tickets are 4000ISK, exclusively available through nordanpaunk@gmail.com—no tickets will be sold at the door. Camping fees are not included in the price of admission.
