Academy Award winning musician Markéta Irglová will play at Harpa concert hall tonight as part the final step of her two-month tour around Europe and North America. Markéta first came to prominence as a seventeen year old in the Irish feature film ‘Once.’ The film ended up claiming the 2006 Academy Award for Best Original Song and Marketa subsequently toured for years with her co-star Glen Hansard under the banner of “The Swell Season”.

In more recent times Iceland has become Markéta’s adopted home, and her new album ‘Remember’ was entirely written here.

“I came to Iceland for the first time with The Swell Season. I fell in love with the country, and was sad to say goodbye to it, even though I knew that someday I would return. The expanse, the desert and the energy that radiates from the country give me inspiration, harmony and balance. Something here allows the imagination to flow forward. It ‘s easier to be alone with yourself and at one with everyone and everything that is around you. Personally I find this to lead to better art. “

The show starts at 20:30 and tickets can be purchased on harpa.is, midi.is, or by phone on 528 5050. Price: 2.900 Krona.
