Canada will get a taste of Icelandic electronica when Stereo Hypnosis plays the first night of the 2012 Harvest Festival on September 14. The father and son duo Óskar and Pan Thorarensen will share the stage with electronic groups from across the globe.
Stereo Hypnosis formed in 2006 on Flatey Island, located in western Iceland in Breiðarfjörður Bay. It was there that they recorded their first album, 2007’s ‘Parallel Island.’ The band has since recorded two additional albums, 2009’s ‘Hypnogogia’ and 2010’s ‘Synopsis,’ a collaboration with Italian sound artist Pulse.
Óskar originally entered the music scene in the early 1980s with the art and music collective Inferno 5. He is also known for recording ambient music under the name Jafet Melge. Pan, the younger Thorarensen, has made a name for himself in the Icelandic hip-hop and electronica music scene under the name Beatmakin Troopa.
The Harvest Festival takes place in Ontario, Canada and features electronica and trance bands from North America, Europe and Australia. This will be Stereo Hypnosis’ second appearance at the festival, due in part to funding provided by the Icelandic Hollusta, Hraun í Ölfus i Söl and the Iceland Phallological Museum.  Yes, really, the Phallological Museum.
