Attack Schmattack!

What do Páll Óskar, KK & Ellen, Reykjavík!, múm and Steini from Hjálmar all have in common? Sure, they may all be well-known local musicians, but they have very different styles and fan bases. Nonetheless, they all stand behind the Reykjavík 9, the nine people, some say scapegoats, charged for attacking Althingi during protests in December 2008.  These protests soon culminated in the so-called ‘Pots and Pans revolution,’ which precipitated the overthrow of the administration and new parliamentary elections in early 2009. Along with several other acts, Páll Óskar & co. are coming together this Thursday at NASA to hold a concert in show of support for the Reykjavík 9 and the organisers encourage everyone to join in the show.
It has been two years since the Reykjavík 9 were charged. Although the charges have incited some public outrage against the state, protests and petition signing, they still stand. And this is arguably due to the fact that the show of solidarity for the nine accused has not been sufficiently forceful and that the revolutionary zeal which saw the overthrow of the 2008 administration has petered away into a mixture of disillusionment and resignation.
However,  seeing as the trial is now finally set to begin next week (tune in January 18th, 19th and 20th from 9:15-17:15), the solidarity concert at NASA represents a sort of last appeal to the people. With an entrance fee of only 500ISK (further donations welcome) and a killer line-up, there’s really no excuse to miss out.

Where: NASA
When: Thursday, January 13, 20:30
How Much: 500ISK but further donations are appreciated
