National team jerseys are now half off for men and children, but not for women.

Stundin reports that the store Sports Direct is selling Icelandic national football team jerseys at a 50% discount, but not for all of them. Men’s and children’s jerseys are half off, but women’s are still full price.

This pricing was decision was not a local one, but reportedly came from the parent company in Britain.

“We have no control over price changes,” store manager Ásta Sigrún Friðriksdóttir told reporters. “If I had my way, I’d lower the price of women’s shirts, too. But unfortunately that’s not in my hands.”

The matter brings to mind the concept of the pink tax, wherein products marketed towards women cost more than the same or similar products marketed towards men.

In fact, earlier this year Fréttablaðið found numerous examples of the pink tax in Iceland, relating to everything from razor blades, mouthwash, and toothbrushes to outdoor wear.
