Are you living in Iceland and curious what life is like on another small, cold island? This exhibition by Icelandic photographer Spessi peeks into the lives and homes of inhabitants on Fogo Island, located near Newfoundland. With a population of only 2,700 people, separated into eleven small fishing communities, life on Fogo Island can be bleak, but its people endure. Spessi calls upon the trust and kindness of locals in his photographs as they allow him into their homes while he explores this isolated region. Spessi’s work has been shown in exhibitions internationally, from France to Finland to New York. In 2011, the artist completed a residency program through the Fogo Island Arts Corporation.
The show opened on May 30 and runs until June 18. Listamenn gallery is open from 9:00-18:00 on weekdays and from 12:00-16:00 on weekends. Read the full listing here.
