Happening This Week: MonJazz, Nordic Bar Show, Agatha P. & Óskar Hallgrímsson!

Summer is here and hopefully here to stay. Protect yourself from sunstroke at these not-to-miss events in Reykjavík this week.

Monday, May 6th

Monday Jazz Night (MonJazz) has been a staple of the Reykjavík music scene for almost 5 years, but unfortunately, it’s now time to say goodbye. Come celebrate, then, with a banger of a last show featuring Andri Guðmundsson, Kristofer Rodriguez Svönuson, Hrafnkell Gauti Sigurðarson, Helgi R. Heiðarsson, and Birkir Blær. Make sure to bring tissues—this’ll definitely be a tearjerker—as you say farewell to the only party every Monday night in Reykjavík.

Tuesday, May 7th
Nordic Bar Show
15:00, Various Locations

The day will start with a seminar at Kjarvalsstofan from 15:00 to 18:00 focusing on the concept and history of NBS and the difference between the bar scenes in the Nordic countries. Directly afterwards will be seminar on Johnnie Walker and Tanqueray—party! The party will then continue to Miami, where there will be a special pop-up bar. Come ready to consume alcohol.

Wednesday, May 8th
Agatha P. Does Eurovision
21:00 Kiki Queer Bar, Free!

We are the heroes of our time. Forever til the end of time. If these lines ring a massive glittery bell in your head, don’t miss drag royalty Agatha P.’s special Eurovision lipsync karaoke. Cue the rose pedals falling out of your wig and a key changem yeah? Wear your best ballgown and make sure to get dramatic, but remember, as RuPaul said to Mimi Imfurst, lipsyncing is not a contact sport, so please keep your hands to yourself.

Thursday, May 9th
Óskar Hallgrímsson – Hello, Love You Forever
13:00-18:00, Gallery Port

Photographer and designer Óskar Hallgrímsson dives into Pattaya, better known as the “Sin City” of Thailand and the capital of the sex industry in Asia. At this special exhibit, Óskar presents his new book, ‘Hello, Love You Forever,’ along with a selection of works from the book alongside it, which go deep into the reality of that beautiful and sad city. If you can’t see the exhibition today, it’ll run til May 16th everyday except Monday and Tuesday from 13:00 to 18:00.
