Yesterday, kindergarten teacher Fanney Ósk Ríkharðsdóttir from Egilsstaðir came to work, only to find tourists doing their business by the playground.
“It’s a lot of fun to come out and play, and find foreigners camping by our fence and relieving themselves,” Fanney told RÚV.
Fanney, along with her colleagues, had taken the kids out for a walk in the morning when she noticed the tent. Soon after, a tourist came out and started excreting a substance. She, however, is thankful that the children had not noticed the potty trip.
Disgusted locals
Locals in Egilstaðir have experienced tourists taking care of business around town, and it is not uncommon that people try to save a bit of extra money by not paying for campsites.
“Us adults understood immediately what was going on,” she said. “I have totally had it and doing this by a kindergarten is disgusting!”
According to Fanney, it is not clear whether tourist urine or tourist shit was in question, but the kindergarten employees have tried reaching the Egilstaðir police department, but as of writing this article those attempts have been in vain. We can only hope they investigate the matter thoroughly.
Iceland the toilet
Reports of similar bowel movements have been reported across the country and even in the Reykjavík city centre things have gotten shitty.
Grímur “Gimmi” Jón Sigurðsson, local musician and homeowner at Laugavegur, has experienced tourists shitting on his house. He recounts how he came out one morning and saw a butt naked man coming from behind his house and walking into a van—where he had clearly been sleeping. Gimmi checked the alley by his house where he found poop on his outer wall.
“I don’t remember getting this sad since I heard “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera for the first time,” Gimmi sorrowfully recounts. “But then it was happy sad. Do you understand?” he said, his frown turning into a smile.
“That song was actually written by Linda Perry, you know, from the 4 Non Blondes. They made the song “What’s Up?” in 1993,” he says before bursting into song. “And I say, hey yeah yeah, hey yeah yeah. I said hey, what’s going on?”
