Winds could reach decidedly dangerous speeds in east and southeast Iceland today, but should calm down again by the middle of the week.
Vísir reports that these regions of the country will be getting northwesterly winds traveling from 18 to 23 metres per second. In some cases, gusts could reach speeds of up to 40 m/s.
These winds will be primarily hitting east and southeast Iceland, and hail may also come crashing down in the northeastern parts of the region. Temperatures will be between freezing and 5°C.
By Tuesday, the winds will still be continuing to come in at great speed, but precipitation should decrease. Storm conditions should abate for this region by Wednesday afternoon.
If you are planning on traveling through these regions during these times, do not take unnecessary risks – pull over and stop for a while if the winds are starting to rock your car or camper van while you are driving, check the forecast before hitting the road, and respect any road closings you may encounter, should they occur.
