Photos: Winter Roads Of Southern Iceland

Grapevine’s trusty in-house photographer Art Bicnick took a drive around the south coast recently to visit the Vatnajökull ice cave. Along the way, he encountered some extreme wintery conditions, which you can see below.

“These were taken on the way to the ice cave, along with colleagues from Arctic Adventures, on 30 Jan 2016,” says Art. “The photos were taken on the roads between Eyjafjallajökull and Skaftafell. There was fresh snow, strong wind and the rising sun. It was beautiful and dangerous — sometimes visibility was literally zero, especially when we passed the other cars. It was difficult to even see roadside poles.”

Check back soon for more visual diaries from the trip.
