Iceland ranks the top country in the world for the happiness of gay men, according to an extensive global survey.
The online gay community PlanetRomeo, who conducted the survey, collected feedback from some 115,000 gay men about their happiness levels from the world over.
“There are 7 billion people on the planet and assuming that 5% of them are LGBTs, then there are about 350 million LGBTs in the world – a lot of people,” their mission statement says. “That’s more than the entire population of the United States. Plenty of news is written about us, but nobody knows what’s really going on. Most of the available data refers to us in an abstract legal way and not on the level of the happiness of individuals. Worldwide comparable data about how life is, from the point of view of the gay citizen, is nowhere to be found.”
According to their findings, Iceland ranks the top country in the world for gay happiness, followed by Norway, Denmark and Sweden. The least friendly countries towards gay men were Ethiopia, Sudan, and Uganda.
All the hard data is available for free on their website, with plenty of detail graphs for laypeople to check out, too.
