Iceland will not feature heavily in the new season of Game of Thrones
Iceland will not feature heavily in the new season of Game of Thrones, reports RÚV. No actors are expected and the crew will be limited. Plans are to take some landscape shots which will later be used in the show.
In an interview with RÚV, Snorri Þórisson, CEO of production company Pegasus, confirmed the rumour. Originally, there were plans to film a battle sequence in Iceland in November but as the script developed the scene grew too large and long to film in Iceland at a time of year where sunlight suitable for filming was limited to 5 hours a day.
“This does not come as a shock,” Snorri said. Snorri also told RÚV that the Game of Thrones crew might return to Iceland in the future.
Iceland has hosted the Game of Thrones crew for the past three years and has found other ways of sneaking into the show. Last season, Iceland’s very own strongman, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, played the Mountain and Sigur Rós sang at King Joffrey’s nuptials.
Over the years the Game of Thrones cast and crew spent 825 million ISK while filming in Iceland.
