A new poll on the character traits of various Icelandic politicians revealed some interesting results.
According to the poll, conducted by Market and Media Research, two politicians stood out in particular for their positive qualities: Left-Green chairperson Katrín Jakobsdóttir and Reykjavík mayor Jón Gnarr.
In the opinion of poll respondents, Katrín was rated the most honourable, most decisive and the most true to her convictions of Iceland’s politicians. Jón Gnarr was ranked as having the most personal charm and the best connection with the general public. In fact, the two ranked very close together in all these categories.
Icelandic President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson was also a popular choice, ranking highest for being a born leader, for working well under pressure, and for showing personal strength.
Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson didn’t fare as well – he ranked lowest in terms of honourability, and was ranked by respondents as having little personal charm – and both he and ruling coalition partner Bjarni Benediktsson were considered the least in touch with the general public.
