A mother in Ísafjörður has issued the general public a warning in light of a recent crime that took place in her town.
Bæjarins bestu reports that earlier this week, a young girl was playing outside when she lost her coat. After an extensive search, the coat was recovered, but not before vandals found it first.
The as yet unidentified suspects burned the coat in several places, apparently also setting a cigarette pack on fire within the armpit of the coat as well.
The mother of the girl told reporters that her daughter was quite upset by this, as it was her favourite coat. She urges all residents of Ísafjörður to be on the lookout for suspicious activity when children are playing outside.
Such cases are fortunately rare in Ísafjörður, as chief of police Önundur Jónsson told reporters that he does not recall any cases of vandalism perpetrated on lost items. The suspect, or suspects, in this case are still at large.
