A committee comprised of policemen that the Minister of Justice put together last year has submitted a report on how they believe police can best deal with organized crime from abroad within Iceland.
Human trafficking in Iceland began to receive more attention last year, and in response, police spoke more openly about how to best deal with organized crime from abroad that sets up shop in Iceland.
The committee recommends, among other things, that Iceland work in closer cooperation with international organizations, and that supervision at Keflavik airport be increased.
It should be noted that there were no representatives from human rights groups or immigrant interest groups on the committee, which was originally formed to determine how much additional supervision the police could place on foreigners and still remain within the boundaries of the law.
