The Directorate of Internal Revenue (RSK), the Icelandic Confederation of Labour (ASÍ), and the Confederation of Icelandic Employers (SA) have joined forces for the third year in a row in a campaign to put a stop to unreported forms of employment, mbl reports.
The campaign consists of patrols and surprise visits to various places of employment in order to review tax assessments, employment contracts and payroll processing. The patrols will be carried out until next autumn and concentrate on jobs sectors which have been reported to thrive on illicit forms of employment.
According to Skúli Eggertsson, the Commissioner of Internal Revenue, representatives from tourism, construction and the automotive trade in particular have called for increased supervision to eliminate under-the-table work and improve working conditions.
The Directorate of Internal Revenue has announced that the campaign will focus on small to medium sized businesses and that their intention is to make sure employment regulations are being met, to consult employers and to inform employees of their rights.
