The long-awaited stage production of ‘Mary Poppins’ premieres at Borgarleikhúsið today, RÚV reports.
‘Mary Poppins,’ a crowd favourite since the Julie Andrews first played the titular role on film in 1964, is the largest theatrical production ever to be undertaken in Iceland. Its preparation has involved approximately 200 people, including renowned set-designers and choreographers who have been flown in from abroad.
“This is a hugely extensive production, the first to have such a large group of actors, dancers, singers and musicians together on stage, as well as such a large team of technicians behind the scenes to operate the set. The stage is an extensive framework, with video and costumes to create great theatrical magic,” said Magnús Geir Þórðarson, director of Borgarleikhúsið.
While many of the shows have already sold out, tickets can be sought online on Borgarleikhúsið’s website.
