Elín Hall has been announced as one of the European Shooting Stars for 2025, an esteemed recognition awarded by the European Film Promotion (EFP) organisation. Each year, the EFP highlights ten emerging actors from across Europe who have made a significant impact in their home countries and on the international stage.
The selected actors will be introduced at the Berlin International Film Festival, running from February 13 to 23, 2025, with an awards ceremony taking place on February 17.
Elín Hall has received widespread acclaim for her recent role in Ljósbrot, directed by Rúnar Rúnarsson. The film, which premiered as the opening feature of the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024.
The jury praised her performance, saying, “In Ljósbrot, Elín Hall carries the complex narrative with a deeply compelling portrayal of grief. Her character’s secrets draw viewers into an intimate connection, making her an undeniable rising star with natural talent and extraordinary depth.”
Elín’s accolades include winning Best Actress at the Chicago International Film Festival for her role in Ljósbrot. She has previously been recognised for her performances in Lof mér að falla (2018) and Kuldi, earning nominations at Edda Awards. Her versatile career also includes roles in television series such as Réttur and the documentary Out of Thin Air.
In 2025, Elín will appear in the upcoming TV series about Iceland’s former president Vigdís Finnbogadóttir and the feature film It All Comes With the Cold Water. Beyond acting, Elín Hall is a talented musician with two albums to her name and experience composing for film and TV. Her album Heyrist í mér won Album of the Year at the Reykjavík Grapevine’s 2024 Music Awards.
The Shooting Stars 2025 jury includes industry experts such as Romanian director Radu Muntean, Swedish casting director Pauline Hansson, Swiss producer Amel Soudani, French actress Ludivine Sagnier, and Montenegrin journalist Vuk Perović.
Elín joins a diverse group of actors from across Europe, including Marina Makris (Cyprus), Besir Zeciri (Denmark), Maarja Johanna Mägi (Estonia), Devrim Lingnau (Germany), Kārlis Arnolds Avots (Latvia), Šarūnas Zenkevičius (Lithuania), Lidija Kordić (Montenegro), Vicente Wallenstein (Portugal), and Frida Gustavsson (Sweden).
