The man suspected of killing his 10-year-old daughter in September has been charged with murder, reports Vísir. According to the Icelandic penal code, people convicted of murder should face a sentence no shorter than five years.
On September 15, Sigurður Fannar Þórsson was arrested on Krýsuvík road, north of Kleifarvatn, suspected of killing his daughter.
He had called emergency services willingly, announcing that his daughter was dead in the lava field across Vatnsskarðsnáma. Emergency responders found the victim and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Sigurður’s detainment was extended for four weeks. According to the case prosecutor, it is unclear whether the court proceedings will be open or closed.
