The good news is: temperatures along the southwest coast of Iceland are going to be above freezing this week. The bad news is: pretty much all of the country, with the exception of the east, is going to experience gale-force winds until Friday morning.
As the latest alerts from the Icelandic Met Office show, all of Iceland—except for the east and southeast—will be subjected to winds ranging from 18 to 25 metres per second, with more powerful gusts in areas near mountains.
In addition, there will be blowing snow throughout all of these regions except for the northeast. This tends to drastically lower visibility, which can make driving perilous. Coupled with freezing temperatures in every part of the country except the southwest coast, roads may be slippery as well. Strong caution is advised.
These conditions are expected to last until at least early Friday morning. So if you are planning on traveling during this time, be sure and check the weather forecast and road conditions first.
