The cows at Hvanneyrarbúið spent a night on the town after opening their barn door and letting themselves out in the middle of the night, according to a report from the farmers on Facebook. They returned this morning, just in time for breakfast.

“There were a lot of cattle tracks by the [barn entrance], but no cattle were visible outside. In the cowshed, everything was quiet. The cows either lay in the stalls or ate hay for the most part. Everything appeared like it should, except one thing: the door where the cows go out in the summer was wide open,” the Facebook post reads in part.

In fact, besides the open door, the only indication that anyone went out for a party was the unusual activity on their monitoring devices.

The animals are fitted with devices that monitor their physical activity, and this morning, over 50 cows had unusual activity on their profiles. These devices showed that they had ventured out around midnight, but returned some time between five or six in the morning. It is speculated that the gradually worsening weather convinced the cows to return to the barn.

All of the cows returned to the barn happy, hungry, and unharmed.
