An environmental benefit concert was announced yesterday with Björk and director Darren Aronofsky as the figureheads.
Entitled “Stopp—Let’s Protect the Park,” the event will be held on March 18, and begins at 17:30 with the premiere of “Noah” at Egilsbíó cinema. With the shooting of the film taking place on location in Iceland in summer 2012, Aronofsky is evidently an ardent admirer of the Icelandic wilds. The producers of the film apparently took care not to leave any damage in their wake, as large film productions have been known to do whilst shooting on location.
After the Noah premiere the festivities move to Harpa’s Eldborg Hall for some live music with Aronofsky introducing to the stage Patti Smith, Lykke Li, Of Monsters & Men and Björk. On the bill are also a pretty stellar selection of young Reykjavík acts including Retro Stefson, Mammút, Samaris and new electro-pop duo Highlands. Doors are at 20:00 and the concert begins at 20:30 sharp.
All the artists involved will donate their work and performances, and the net income will be donated to the Iceland Nature Conservation Association and Landvernd, the Icelandic Environment Association, who are co-sponsors of the show.
