President Of Iceland Meets Putin In Sochi

President of Iceland, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and wife Dorrit Moussaieff met President Putin in a special reception held in honour of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, reports RÚV.

The couple were well received and Grímsson chatted amicably with Putin for some time with the help of a translator.

Many heads of state and political figures are attending the Winter Games, but the absence of Western leaders has attracted attention. Absent heads of state include, US President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, President Francois Hollande of France and President Joachim Gauck of Germany.

In addition to the President of Iceland, prime ministers of the Netherlands, Italy and Finland attended the reception.
The President’s Office has confirmed that Grímsson has meetings with several state leaders during the Winter Olympics in Sochi, though for security reasons the names of those he is meeting has not been made public.
