A medal of The Order of the Falcon – one of the highest honours bestowed by Iceland to citizens and foreigners alike – has been put up for sale on eBay.
The award is considered a great honour by most in Iceland, with varying degrees given to people depending on the level of service to the country determined by the five-member Order Council. Both Icelanders and foreigners alike have been given the order at one time or another.
Apparently not everyone is as impressed with the Order of the Falcon as others, as one such medal is now for sale on eBay.
Currently selling for 535 GBP, the sellers – Picary Antiques – describe the item as “[A]n original ribbon mounted for wear; in original fitted case of issue by C. C. Sporrong & Co. of Stockholm.” They do not reveal who the original recipient was, although they do say “the medal is awarded sparingly, making it very hard to find.”
The lucky buyer who makes the top bid in time can own one within six to ten business days.
