From Iceland — President Approves Fishing Fees Bill

President Approves Fishing Fees Bill

Published July 9, 2013

President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson announced Tuesday afternoon that he will sign the new fishing fees bill.

He said at a press meeting in Bessastaðir that the matter of taxation on Iceland’s fishing resources was not of such nature that it would suit a referendum.

Also, he added, the matter would be reassessed next year.

His decision therefore was not affected by the fact that over 35 thousand people urged him to reject the bill – which revokes laws set by the former government regarding a significant increase in fishing fees.
