Male strippers and visits to strip clubs are part of organized social events for students in the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Iceland.
The Students’ Magazine has pulled out of publishing an article revealing what happens at annual Gents and Ladies nights within the faculty’s students’ society.
Baldvin Þormóðsson, journalist at the magazine, told Vísir.is that he interviewed two male students of business administration about these parties, planned by an entertainment committee called Tradition.
They described to him that for years, the Gents Night end at a strip club while a male stripper shows up for the Ladies Nights.
Shortly before the magazine was going to print, members of Tradition requested that the interview wouldn’t be published. Since there was no time to rewrite the article, it was withdrawn.
Baldvin told Vísir that he feels as if he’s participated in a cover-up.
“They go to these strip clubs to have drinks and some go as far as buying a lap dance,” he said, adding that afterwards they say it’s just a joke.
“It doesn’t matter whether these guys are serious or just having a laugh, they spend money in these places thus reinforce this sort of operation.”
Baldvin told Vísir that the guys he interviewed had described to him how they could see the anguish in the women’s eyes. It should therefore be obvious to them how grave the matter was.
“There’s been an awakening in the society about these places, especially after this summer’s discussion and finally they’re being closed down. Yet, there are guys like this still organizing such events and think it’s just cool,” Baldvin concluded.
Vísir contacted a few business administrators who confirmed that they had gone on such planned trips to strip clubs when they were studying at the faculty.
