From Iceland — Man Attacks Polar Bear, Gets Arrested

Man Attacks Polar Bear, Gets Arrested

Published June 29, 2011

A drunken man attacked both a stuffed polar bear and a passing pedestrian, and was promptly arrested.
The incident, reported on the police’s Facebook page and later elaborated upon by Vísir, took place Tuesday evening.
A man in his forties, who was apparently very intoxicated, broke the window of a restaurant and kicked a nearby stuffed polar bear in the head. A pedestrian who happened by ended up getting attacked by the man, too, and a scuffle ensued until police arrived on the scene.
The shift manager of the capital police told Vísir that officers at the station at first did not understand the police report on the incident. He had no further information on the polar bear in question, but believes it was one of two polar bears that stand in front of the store Ísbjörninn on Laugarvegur.
The suspect is currently still in police custody until he sobers up, at which time he might then be able to explain what he has against that particular stuffed polar bear.
