Milkywhale’s Guide To Sónar 2016

Our favourite emergent band from Airwaves ’15 was the all-singing-all-dancing party band Milkywhale, the project of dancer, singer, and loveable stage dynamo Melkorka Magnúsdóttir, and her laptop-manning co-creator Arni Hlöðversson (also of FM Belfast, amongst others).

We asked Milkywhale to give us their top picks from the Sónar 2016 lineup, and they were happy to oblige. So here it is: the Milkywhale guide to Sónar.

Gangly
Their music is so heavy and powerful, that kind that really goes deep and vibrates inside you. I’ve been listening to their single “Fuck with someone else” on repeat and looking forward to see some more material at Sónar.

Hudson Mohawke
I’m so excited to see his live show! Those tunes immediately get you hyped. I recommend that people bring a bottle of water, dress comfortably, and become one with the crowd while inhaling his magic.

Úlfur Úlfur
The hip hop band that conquered Iceland last year, Úlfur Úlfur have an amazing stage presence. They’re beautiful boys with lots of talent and awesome beats. Need I say more?

GKR
You can play GKR for your kids at home, in the gym, or table dancing at Prikið at 4am. His song ‘Morgunmatur’ is one of the best songs of last year. Kids, you should all eat breakfast and do your thing like GKR.

!!!
After all that deep electronic music everybody should be in the mood for some disco inspired dance-punk and indie-rock. I saw them at Airwaves a few years ago and I’m planning to see them again.
