From Iceland — Kraumur and Backyard at Iceland Airwaves

Kraumur and Backyard at Iceland Airwaves

Published October 11, 2010

Icelandic music documentary Backyard, will be screened at Bíó Paradís over the Airwaves festival this coming weekend. The film, which features top Icelandic bands múm, FM Belfast, Hjaltalín, Reykjavík!, Borko, Sin Fang and Retro Stefson, will be screened daily starting Wednesay, with a special concert on Friday the 15th featuring performances by several artists from the film. A question and answer session with directors will follow the screening on Saturday.
Backyard is the brainchild of musicians Árni Rúnar Hlöðversson and Árni Sveinsson, who directed the film. It documents a live music event organised in a downtown backyard on Culture Night last year and is a lively portrayal of the current Reykjavik music scene. The film was awarded the audience prize at the fourth Skjaldborg DocFest in May this year.
The screenings and concert are held in conjunction with Kraumur, a not for profit music fund that supports Icelandic musicians. This is the third year Kraumur has worked in collaboration with the Airwaves festival across a range of musical and visual themes.
Kraumur will also award their annual music prize to the best Icelandic album releases of the year, as judged by a panel of top Icelandic music journalists. Last years winners included Anna Guðný Guðmundsdóttir, Bloodgroup and Hjaltalín among others.
Read our fancy feature on the Backyard film from this spring, by the most excellent Ms. Rebecca Louder (we miss her). Screenings daily at 17:00 Wednesday 13 - Sunday 17
