Sykur

Icelandic electro outfit Sykur got their first international release with EP ‘Mesopotamia’ on April 29th of this year. It didn’t take long for Wall of Sound head honcho Mark Jones to snap them up upon first hearing. The signing had even greater significance given one of the band’s biggest influences, Röyksopp, are now label mates.

The band, consisting of Agnes Björt Andradóttir, Halldór Eldjárn, Stefán Finnbogason and Kristján Eldjárn started as a trio back in 2008 while Halldór, Stefán and Kristján were still at school. Singer Agnes joined in 2011 thus completing the band and bringing with her a unique combination of sneering Courtney Love attitude and Donna Summer disco-fabulousness.

’Mesopotamia’ contains choice cuts of bubbling electro synth-pop. Party anthems “Curling” and “Messy Hair” have gained UK support at both national and local radio, with key support from BBC 6 Music, XFM, BBC London and Absolute.
They hit the UK for a tour in July 2013 and proceeded to blow minds with their electrifying performance, shows included Secret Garden Party, Kendal Calling and the Hoxton Bar and Kitchen. In a short time they gathered new supporters and fans. Amongst them, Edith Bowman and Nemone, inviting them in for a chat on their respective 6 Music shows.

The band are already in the studio writing their new album, due to be released in the first half 2014. Discover the sound of an 8-bit future.
