Jóhann Kristinsson

Indie folk with an electro vibe. Jóhann’s first album ‘Call Jimmy’ was released in Iceland and on a small indipendent label in Chicago in the year of 2008. That same year, he composed and recorded the soundtrack for a short-film called ‘Hux’ with musician, Þórður Hermannsson. The film got shown at the Cannes film-festival in France. Two years later he released a seven-track album, called ‘Tropical Sunday.’ He got invited to write music in a 600 year old castle in Denmark for that same festival, called Engelsholm Slot. Inspired by the atmosphere of the castle, the writing of his next album began it’s process.
Headphones was mostly recorded in his living room but also in various different places, such as Studio Sýrland in Iceland, and at The Castle in Denmark. Jóhann’s earlier works were released quite quickly after being made, without hesitation. However while making Headphones he wanted to spend more time working on his new creation, by throwing away more material during the recording process, and spending more time making different song edits and arrangements. Hence, during this process, various versions of Headphones have been ready for the past year and a half. Headphones is a personal Indie/Folk record with an electric vibe. The first single ‘No Need to Hesitate’ has already gotten quite a lot of airplay and was picked as one of the best songs of 2012 by various Icelandic music blogs. ‘Headphones’ was released in a limited edition of 200, numbered copies.
