Halleluwah

Halleluwah is newly formed band by producer Sölvi Blöndal and singer & visual artist Raketa. They come from very different backgrounds. Sölvi is the brain child of Icelandic hiphop band Quarashi and Raketa is a trained jazz vocalist, having dipped her toes in the Icelandic music scene performing with indie & electro bands such as Sykur & Útidúr. The duo seem to be an unlikely pair but they do have a few things in common. One is that they are both natural blondes and the other is they have a love for old ’60s girl-pop groups & singers, such as the Shangri-Las & Francis Gall. They make music that mixes up several elements: sweet soothing retro vocals that sound like they made your grandparents twist and shout back in the day, and hip hop with dark electro beats. The first song ‘Blue Velvet’ from Halleluwah was released early summer 2013 and gained radio success and media attention. It is a slight preview of what’s to come. The band has been honing their craft this summer, plotting their arrival on to the scene for the coming fall, with the second single to be released along with an EP and a line of live performances combining visuals, double drum kits and with a nostalgic element.
