Iceland Airwaves have announced that the one and only Hot Chip will be closing the 2015 edition of the festival, at a massive ‘festival within a festival’ Inception-style blowout at the Vodafone Hall on Airwaves Sunday. The bash will also feature rising UK stars Sleaford Mods along with the “créme de la créme party starters of the Icelandic scene,” such as Úlfur Úlfur and FM Belfast.
The closing party will mark Hot Chip’s second Airwaves appearance, and their return is more than welcome: festival veterans still obsess over their face-melting set at Iceland Airwaves 2004, which has become the stuff of legend (their off-venue concert deep in 12 Tónar’s basement was even more face-melting, actually. Some of us have never recovered. “Never forget”). For a dose of nostalgia, check out Paul Fontaine’s Hot Chip interview from 2004.
The Vodafone Hall’s second floor will be taken over by the Extreme Chill Festival, which will fill the room with the best of Icelandic electro music (here’s hoping Reykjavík’s cops stay chill and resist laying a siege on the place!).
Behold! The full line-up for the party:
Iceland Airwaves 2015 still has a bunch of acts to announce, on top of what’s already been put out there (like Beach House, QT, SOPHIE, Skepta, Perfume Genius, Mercury Rev, John Grant, almost every local band (save for Björk, unfortunately), etc. etc. etc.), so keep your eyes peeled.
