From Iceland — In The Company Of Cocks Are Pink Street Boys’ Enemy Band

In The Company Of Cocks Are Pink Street Boys’ Enemy Band

Published November 8, 2014

Pink Street Boys have been tearing Reykjavík a new one with their extremely loud and dirty brand of garage rock. The name, they say, comes from the street their practice space is on, “Pink Street.” Although the band has existed in other iterations, this is the first time PSB play Iceland Airwaves. We emailed them a few questions about the feedback they’ve been getting, and their feelings on various local bands that they will undoubtedly be playing with in the nearby future.

Our editor Haukur didn’t beat around the bush reviewing your album ‘Trash From The Boys’, saying it was possibly the best Icelandic album ever made, sounding like “a 21st century version of a younger, angrier, hungrier, dirtier, perverser, more cynical, more poisonus, more self-destructiverer version of that band Singapore Sling.” How does that make you feel?
We take it as a big compliment, as Singapore Sling inspired us to be loud and dirty while playing live.

And do you like Singapore Sling?
It’s not as good as gin & tonic.

At Eistnaflug metal festival this year you implored me to come see your gig at Mayhemisphere (RIP) instead of Bölzer, because “they suck ass.” What other bands do you think suck?
We don’t like In the Company of Cocks, they are our enemy.

And what bands do you feel kick ass? What Icelandic band would you love to tour with?
Most of our friends make good music. This includes Lord Pu$$whip, Skelkur í bringu, Godchilla, Muck, russian.girls, Kælan mikla, DJ Flugvél & geimskip, Singapore Sling, and more.

As a showcase festival of great Icelandic and international bands, do you think Iceland Airwaves has enough garage rock? Who do you feel is missing from the lineup?
We would like to see all the great garage bands that are active today such as Black Lips, Guitar Wolf, Thee Oh Sees (again), White Fence, Bazooka, Catatonic Youth and many more bands that fight the system like us.

You can catch Pink Street Boys on the following dates:

November 5: Húrra at 23:20
November 8: KEX Hostel (off-venue) at 12:00, Gaukurinn at 20:50
