The Bedroom Community-affliated Breiðholt Festival has announced their third edition. The festival will take place on June 11, in various locations surrounding the Bedroom Community HQ of Greenhouse Studios, including a nearby sculpture garden and various interesting buildings in the neighbourhood.

The initial announcement includes performances from sóley (read about her new album here), Ólöf Arnalds, Batucada (Samúel Jón Samúelsson street band), 2016 Músiktilraunir winners RuGl, Marteinn Sindri and Academy Award winner Marketa Irglova.

The arts programme will include a REAL COLLECTIVE dance workshop, an art centre for kids and families, and sound installations and performances at the Ölduselslaug pool. There’ll also be a flea market and food stalls.

We interviewed the organisers last year about their attempt to cultivate more links between Reykjavík’s city folk and the Breiðholt area. “We include a lot of people who grew up here, then went on to live downtown, like the illustrator Lóa,” said Sigríður Sunna Reynisdóttir, one of the people who helps make the festival happen. “On Facebook, we have the artists talking about their connections and favourite places here. For example, Jófríður’s connection, apart from recording here, was that she used to see a dentist here. Funny little stories come out of this.” Read the full article here.

Breiðholt Festival is free of charge, and all are welcome. Get more info here, and follow them on Facebook here.
