Amid big announcements like Radiohead playing at Secret Solstice and PJ Harvey coming to Airwaves, the gals and guys behind Iceland’s annual metal festival, Eistnaflug, just dropped a bomb on the headbangers of Iceland by announcing heavy metal band Opeth is headlining their favourite summertime noise fest.
The quintet from Stockholm has been active since 1990, releasing eleven albums including masterpieces like Blackwater Park, Damnation, and Still Life.
Other bands confirmed for this year’s outing include Meshuggah, Amorphis, HAM, Fufanu, Celestine, Muck, Pink Street Boys, and Kælan Mikla.
The festival takes place in Neskaupsstaður, Iceland’s eastern-most settlement, July 6-9. Tickets are available here.
