Icelandic acts Pink Street Boys and the Grapevine’s Band of the Year 2014, Prins Póló, have been nominated for the Phonofile Nordic Music Prize.

While this reporter is entirely biased due to national affiliation, outside the Finnish Mirel Wagner – whose skeletal bluesy goth anthem No Death brought said biased reporter to tears – no one stands a chance against these Icelandic boys.

The nominees are as follows, and if you are a fan of Nordic Playlist’s weekly round up of Nordic music acts you can check out a special Nordic Music Prize playlist with tracks from each nominee.

Emilie Nicolas (NO) – Like I’m a Warrior

Gracias (FI) – Elengi

Iceage (DK) – Plowing Into the Field of Love

Lorentz (SE) – Kärlekslåtar

Lykke Li (SE) – I Never Learn

Neneh Cherry (SE) – Blank Project

Mirel Wagner (FI) – When the Cellar Children See the Light of Day

MØ (DK) – No Mythologies to Follow

Pink Street Boys (ICE) – Trash From the Boys

Prins Póló (ICE) – Sorrí

Selvhenter (DK) – Motions of Large Bodies

Todd Terje (NO) – It’s Album Time

The Phonofile Nordic Music Prize, inspired by the British & Irish Mercury Prize was introduced in 2010. This year’s winner will receive a check for 500.000 ISK or about 4.000 USD, provided by GramArt.

Former winners include Jónsi (ICE), Goran Kajfes (SE), First Aid Kit (SE), and most recently The Knife (SE).
