The waterfall Dettifoss, in northeast Iceland, has been closed due to lots of rain and ice that has been melting in the area.

RÚV reports that the panoramic viewpoint over Dettifoss has been closed. High levels of melting ice has led to minor flooding in the area, rendering it unsafe for visitors. The road to the area will be closed until the situation improves.

The Icelandic Met Office (Veðurstofan) warns that this will last a while, especially as temperature are now rising in that area. The forecast also shows more rain in the west and higher temperatures in the northeast.

If you are planning on heading in that direction, the Met Office advises visitors to drive safe and be on the look-out for flooding.
