If you were worried that the five-day Easter holiday will limit your choices of things to do this weekend, worry no more.

The Easter holiday in Iceland begins today and will not end until Tuesday. As such, bus service, bar opening hours and hours of operation for many government offices (including the state-run alcohol shops) are greatly limited. However, this does not mean you will be confined to your home for the next five days – RÚV reports that there is still plenty to do in the capital area.

The ski areas of Bláfjöll and Skálafell will be open from 10:00 to 17:00 every day this holiday season.

All of Reykjavík’s swimming pools will be open as well, from 9:00 to 18:00 every day except Good Friday, with the exception of Árbæjarlaug, Laugardalslaug and Vesturbæjarlaug, which will be open from 10:00 to 18:00 on this day. They will also be open on Easter Sunday, and all pools will be open on Easter Monday.

The Reykjavík Park and Zoo will also be open every day of this holiday, from 10:00 to 17:00.

If you travel anywhere by capital area bus, do keep in mind that their hours of service are limited for the Easter Holiday. You might also want to get your grocery shopping done today, unless you plan on eating hot dogs all weekend.
