A tourist stumbled upon the skeleton of a whale while walking on Seltjarnarnes beach yesterday afternoon, reports RÚV.

After informing the local authorities of the skeleton’s location, the whale’s skeleton was investigated and the Icelandic Institute for Natural History notified for further inspection. It is roughly 6-8 metres long and it is still uncertain what type of whale it is.

But before you all set off to play whale detective, Seltjarnarnes city official Soffía Karlsdóttir warned Vísir that the skeleton smelled pretty rank.
